Glencoe Pass The
Campbells, who were rivals to the MacDonalds, saw this as an excuse
to launch a surprise attack, which they did on February 13th, 1692.
Some 38 MacDonalds were killed and others died later from their wounds.
Today this brooding glen is more peaceful andone of the major tourist attractions of the area |
Black Rock Cottages, Glencoe In the year 1690, William III ascended the throne and the Stuart king, James II fled the country. William was concerned about the Scottish clans and ordered that all the chieftans should swear an oath of allegiance to the crown. At this time the clan MacDonald occupied the Glencoe area and their chief only took the oath after the deadline had passed.
